Alex was born in Pasadena within California and grew up within Hancock Park, Los Angeles. Her father's name was the Dr. Charles B. Witt. He is a well-known Los Angeles thoracic surgeon. Colette Witt was her mother. Charles Witt was her oldest brother and Walter Witt is her younger sister. Witt could also be connected by blood to George Washington. She is a descendant of George Washington and a member of the National Society of Washington Family Descendants. Witt is currently living in the same house with Bill Sorensen who is a TV producer. The couple has a daughter named Caroline Sorensen and a son named Charlie Sorensen.
